Broken Down in Downriver Michigan

A few buddies and I decided to go for a road trip this weekend to Downriver, Michigan.  We have some family down there (so that we can stay for free), which makes the trip rather inexpensive as gas is so cheap right now.  We packed everyone up in the car and headed down to Michigan on Friday.

The trip was going to be a blast.

In fact, I was just about going to rate our trip as the best one that we have ever had, but everything screeched to a halt yesterday.  I don’t know what happened, but the Mercedes Benz we were driving ended up being dead on the side of the road.

It wasn’t what any of us wanted.  Being in a place that we were not too familiar with, we had to get on our phones and see if we could find a place that did Mercedes Benz repair in Downriver Michigan.

I’ll admit, I was a little stressed out.

But we were able to find a service station that was open and was willing to help us out.  They even arranged for a tow truck, so though it was stressful having a major breakdown like this, at least it felt like we were going to be able to get back on the road.

In fact, once the car was in the shop, it didn’t take them long to fix it.  We should be back on the road later today, and while having a car that needed to be repaired wasn’t what we were expecting, at least the trip was still fun.

Going Ice Fishing this Weekend

Fish on the Ice

One of the things I love about winter is the opportunity to go ice fishing. Sitting in a ice shack for the better part of the day is very relaxing for me. I’m still young, so the cold doesn’t bother me that much. Realistically, as long as you dress properly the cold shouldn’t bother you at all.

This weekend I will be taking my nephew, Jaxon, on his first fishing trip. He has been asking me for the last few years but he was little too young so I didn’t feel comfortable being responsible for him. I was even able to find the perfect sized ice fishing rod which I gave him on his birthday week ago.

I think we are both pretty excited about the weekend. I hope for his sake that we catch something.

Wish us luck!

My Car is in the Shop

Broken Down Car

One of the dreaded things for every car owner would be when it breaks down.  I know that I am sure that I roll my eyes every time that there is a problem with it.

It usually ends up costing a lot.

I don’t know what happened this time, but I was driving down the freeway, some lights came on, the car made some “binging” noises, and then it quit.  Thankfully I was able to pull over to the side of the road before I lost my momentum.

So, after a call to CAA, I was able to get the car towed to the nearest garage.  They are looking at it right now, so I am hoping that it is an easy fix.

But it usually never is.  I guess I will just have to wait and see how things pan out.

What a Good Weekend

Our Snowman

There are some weekends where you get nothing accomplished and others where everything goes better than you would have thought.

This past weekend was one of those.

In fact, the weather was so good that I was able to get the rest of the recycling taken care of, cleaned out a room in the basement and even managed to build a snowman with my nieces and nephew.

Sure, I am tired today since I had a busy weekend, but it was productive and fun.

Too bad most weekends are not the same.

Going on a Hot Date Tonight

Delicious Donuts

Date night – my favorite night of the week.  The one day where we get out of the house and set aside time for each other.  It is something that we have been doing for years now, and I don’t think that I will ever get bored of it.

I love spending time with Melissa.

Tonight we will be heading out to a local coffee shop to have some donuts and hopefully catch a movie.  I want to see the new James Bond movie, but I think that she is leaning more towards “Miss you Already” with Drew Barrymore.

Guess who is going to win?

Well, it is really not about winning at all.  The fact that we get to share some quiet moments together without a care in the world is just perfect.

It is going to be a good night.

Wishing the Weekend Was Not Over

For me, there is nothing more frustrating than going back to work on a Monday.  The weekends are just too short, and it never seems like there is enough time to get everything done.

Do you ever have enough time?

I bet the answer is no.

But at least the weekend was productive.  We were able to make some good headway on cleaning out my parent’s house and I had the opportunity to play with my niece and nephew.

We had a blast.

But like anything, it didn’t last forever, and I am back to work today.

The weekend won’t be here soon enough.

Playing Xbox 360 Games on Xbox One

Back in 2006, a game came out for the Xbox 360, Perfect Dark: Zero.  It was the first game released by Rare since its’ acquisition by Microsoft.  They were known for both Goldeneye and Perfect Dark for Nintendo 64, and I really wanted to play this game.

The trouble was that I didn’t have an Xbox 360, and honestly at the time, I didn’t think that I was going to find any other games on the system that I wanted to play.

So, I passed on buying it back then.

Fast forward to today.

I just read a post on Tom’s Hardware that lists Xbox 360 Backwards-compatible games, and low and behold: Perfect Dark is on the list.

So, I headed over to Amazon, to buy Perfect Dark: Zero Collector’s edition, and it is being shipped to my house as we speak.

I will finally be able to get to play this game that I have been waiting for a good chunk of my life to play.

I just hope that it is as good as I had hoped.

Taking Time to Remember

Poppy for Remembrance Day

Today is the one day of the year that we get to step back from our lives and remember the sacrifices that so many made to let us have the freedoms and quality of life that we enjoy.  I know that I had some of my great-grandparents and grandparents serve in the great wars, and every day when I look around, I can see what their sacrifice has done for our world.

Make sure you take the time today for a moment of silence for those who sacrificed their lives so that we could continue to be free.

Let us never forget.

Roses Are Red Poems

Roses are Red

I love “Roses are Red” poems.  They are easy to come up with, and you can do so much with a simple rhyming scheme.  You can use them for everything from romance to enhancing day-to-day tedium.

I have included some examples below.

Roses are red,
Violets are blue,
I just learned how to rhyme,
And so can you.

Roses are Red,
Violets aren’t white,
Would you like to go out with me tonight?

Roses are red,
Dandelions are yellow,
Would you like to date me?
I am a kind and handsome fellow.

Roses are red,
Violets are blue,
You asked for some samples,
So I gave you more than two.

There are just so many ways you can create Roses are Red type poems – share some samples in the comments below.

Last Campfire of the Season

Last night was great.  I had some buddies over for supper and we had a wiener roast.  Since winter is approaching, we decided to try and fit one more campfire into this year as once the snow hits the ground, we won’t be able to have any more.

We had a blast.

It is hard to believe that the summer and fall is already over (yes, I know, not officially), and we are looking forward to the winter months.

On the bright side, in a month or so we will be able to ice fish – that should be fun.
